The Octagram

One of my aims in posting all the paintings on Odalisques.com and FetLife, encouraging other people to post ones like they too, and creating the Odalisques group was to find useful ideas in amongst all this deeply attractive material. Useful in terms of real-life D/s-M/s-O&P relationships. On the Odalisques.com site is the Octagram - an eight-point distillation of key themes from this Odalisquian world which embodies this aim.

The eight themes are in four pairs: Obedience & Captivity; Beauty & Pleasure; Arts & Skills; Nakedness & Purdah. Each theme has a paragraph with a brief explanation and an example or two.

I've deliberately avoided anything like the detailed systems of protocol or prescriptive rules you sometimes see, and just tried to capture the flavour of what makes Odalisquian styles special. Of course, a lot of these ideas are reusable in completely different styles: you could dress your girl in corset and stockings and still have her think about ways of cultivating her beauty as Odalisques did - without going anywhere near harem pants and ankle bells :)

What I'm trying to get at is something that's easy to miss in D/s-M/s-O&P, with forums that so often focus on the structure of the relationship. As I say elsewhere on the site "where a structure like O&P provides a skeleton for M/s and D/s relationships, the Odalisquian aim is to put sensual, feminine flesh on that skeleton."

Possession. Ownership. Consent. Responsibility. Respect. House. Service. Dignity. Authenticity. Rituals.

O&P (Ownership & Possession) is a new structure built from familiar D/s and M/s concepts, defined by the O&P Manifesto.

There is an O&P discussion group on Fetlife.

The O&P Wiki contains articles about O&P and related D/s, M/s, and BDSM topics.

You can also follow O&P on Twitter.
